Ever since the
foundation of the Growth Day Care Center in 1983, the regular performance
is staged weekly by teachers of the school for children in the center.
In 1985,"Pop Corn", a children's TV program, was cooperatively
plotted by the center and Guangqi Agency, offering a weekly "Pop
Corn Theater" for kids awaiting in front of TV. In 1987, the
Shiny Shoes Children's Theater was formally founded, and received
the sponsorship from Fen Tay Cultural Foundation in the following
year. Not only for theatrical study in promotion of theatrical education,
the newly founded theater also upgraded our cycle performance, which
was initially limited inside small community, to a formal performance
in the National Theater. It brings about pleasure for more and more
children, and offers a platform of presentation and study for those
who endeavor for children's play.
Thanks to the
experience and ability in promoting small regular performance inside
community, in 1992 the Shiny Shoes was able to establish the Shiny
Shoes Children's House - a permanent home of the Shiny Shoes in
Nan Kuang. During the following two years, opening performances
were regularly presented every Saturday. The theater, however, had
to give way to a governmental infrastructure project later. Nevertheless,
the Shiny Shoes didn't give up thereby, and found a new location
for regular performance in Taichung in 1995. We firmly believe that
our ideal to promote small regular performance inside community
will never come to nothing, as for the past 14 years the Shiny Shoes
was sustained by a mysterious fountainhead, which always made our
dream come true.
It is a community
full of childlike innocence and activity, formed by students, youth
of the community, and even housewives, who selflessly donate their
precious time, wisdom and love. Although some of them leave every
year, yet new members will join the team soon. Just like a river,
it carries "the Shiny Shoes" to tread over high mountains,
meadows and lands for children.
Sharing the
same experience with them in the tough practice, singing the praise
of their wonderful performance is not enough for us. Our special
gratitude, on behalf of all kids, also goes to these performers
and workers behind the scene, who endeavor to make contribution
for kids whenever they are given opportunities. And it is my hope
that all of our kids can follow them to affect others, and also
be touched, emotionally.
